Wordful Wednesday - 1.18.10

Not pregnant! This is just about the day that I found out that I was pregnant with Constance. :)

"No more wasting pregnancy tests on the same day that you'll end up getting your period!"

My husband said this when he overheard me telling my mother in law that I was a day late. We had been trying for a few months and had experienced some disappointment along the way. I'd take a pregnancy test with the excitement to see two lines and end up with only one. Although I was hopeful, I agreed with Joshua deep down. No hurt in trying, though! Right?

My father in law handed me a dollar and said, "Go to the dollar store and pick one up for yourself." He always spoils me a little when I say the hubby is picking on me. (All in good fun, of course.)

The next morning, I felt crampy, as if a period was coming on, but I still wanted to take the test. I figured I'd take it, fail it, and move on. To my surprise, the test immediately turned positive. I looked at it a second time and in shock, I dropped it on the floor. I couldn't believe it!

My first thought ... you're pregnant and you haven't had anything to eat yet! Take care of that baby! EAT SOMETHING!

My little sister in law, who was five at the time, was spending the day with me. She had to of known something was up, but I didn't want her to know first. That memory will always be special to me, though. That was the day she became an aunt and let me tell you - she's quite a good one for her young age. I just know she'll make a wonderful Mommy.

Anyway, my husband had plans to bring the car home that day while he was on break so I could have lunch with my mom. I had to wait two hours after I took that test to show it to him and they were the longest of my life. As soon as he got to our apartment, his little sister and I ran down to the car. I sat down in the seat next to him and without saying anything, I just pulled the test out of my pocket.

His reaction was so cute. He couldn't say a word, just smile and ... smile more. He'd try to stutter a few words, but he was just in shock. He was excited, but I just don't think he was expecting that. I told him that I didn't want to get my hopes up, because I figured the test was defective. (I learned later on that day while googling that false positives are actually rare.) I was going to take two more and see what the results were.

Later that afternoon, I visited a good friend . Before even telling her what was going on, I went straight to the bathroom and took the tests. They both immediately came out positive.

I laid the pregnancy tests out on her coffee table and asked her, "What do you think?"

I love remembering that day. I can't wait to tell Constance about it when she is older. :)
